Circle, the company behind the USDC and EURC stablecoins, is removing redemption overage fees for both tokens starting October 19. The change means eligible users who cash out USDC or EURC through Circle’s platform will no longer be charged the extra fee that previously applied when redemptions exceeded a certain threshold.
The announcement was reported by CryptoSlate, which noted that Circle is dropping the extra cash-out fees effective October 19. Overage fees are charges applied when a user’s redemption activity goes beyond a set limit during a billing period, similar to how some bank accounts charge fees for exceeding a transaction limit. What the fee removal actually covers
The specific fees being removed are redemption overage fees tied to USDC (USD Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin) and EURC (a euro-backed stablecoin). Both are issued and managed by Circle.
It is important to be precise here. Circle is removing the overage portion of redemption fees, not all fees associated with redeeming stablecoins. Other costs, such as banking transfer fees, network gas fees, or fees set by third-party platforms, are separate and are not addressed by this change. Users should review their applicable redemption terms to understand what charges, if any, may still apply after October 19.
Circle has been expanding its stablecoin infrastructure in recent months. The company launched the Arc mainnet with USDC gas fees as part of its push to make USDC more deeply integrated into on-chain activity. Removing redemption friction fits that broader direction.
Key takeaways for USDC and EURC holders
If you hold USDC or EURC and plan to redeem through Circle after October 19, the overage fee that previously applied to high-volume redemptions will no longer be charged. This is a direct cost reduction for users who regularly redeem large amounts.
The change affects both tokens equally. USDC is dollar-denominated and is one of the most widely used stablecoins globally. EURC is its euro equivalent, designed for users transacting in European currency. Circle’s H1 financials showed $819 million in distribution and transaction costs, which gives context for why fee structures around redemptions matter to both Circle’s business and its users.
Businesses and developers building payment tools on top of Circle’s infrastructure may also benefit. SAP Pay recently added USDC payment support via Circle, illustrating how enterprise integrations depend on predictable, low-cost redemption processes.
What to check before you redeem
Before submitting a redemption after October 19, confirm three things. First, check that your redemption date falls on or after October 19, since the fee removal does not apply retroactively. Second, confirm you are redeeming USDC or EURC specifically, as other assets are not covered by this announcement. Third, review the current redemption terms in your Circle account or through the platform you use to access Circle’s services, because other fees set by banks or third parties remain in effect.
Users who access USDC liquidity through lending platforms should also note that borrowing costs are separate from redemption fees. OKX recently launched flexible USDC loans in Europe, which operates under a different fee structure than direct Circle redemptions.
For anyone new to stablecoins, redeeming means converting your stablecoin back into traditional currency, such as dollars or euros, through an issuer like Circle. The overage fee was an extra charge for doing this above a set volume. As of October 19, that extra charge is gone for USDC and EURC redemptions through Circle.
